Opening Weekend Upper Wisconsin Renaissance Faire!!

Friday, June 20, 2008, 12:50 AM CST [General]

    (Overlooking the Doon)

    Well met everyone,

Well, the first weekend of the Upper Wisconsin (Medieval) Renaissance Faire has come and went and it was FANTASTIC!!! Although Wisconsin and a few other states had major flooding through out, and some of the main roads were still closed, it was a grand event. The weather could not have been better. The rain finished up Thursday evening and the rest of the weekend was unbelievable being in the mid 70's with a nice breeze. It made for wearing the heavier medieval garb very comfortable. The crowds were decent for opening weekend, but could have been a bit better, but the road issue and weather earlier in the week seemed to be a factor. Everyone was having a super time, from cast to playtron to patron. I know I did!!! Just seeing all the smiles and interaction with everyone is worth it all. My pictures are up so if interested, go to the link below to see them.

Let's see, Queen Johanna of Scots, returned to Doon Douglas to honor the stone of St Margaret. Upon her arrival on horseback, she was greeted by the Lord Mayor of the town, then by the High Lord Constable and was brought up to speed on what has been happening in the Doon. It was then that her first knight, Lord Kadien it was told had been a bad boy and he greated her as well as had explaination of his actions. I Lord Clisto, High Diplomat Ambassador to King Edward III of England, greeted her and gave news to her from her brother the King as well as enduring word from her dear husband King David II of Scots who is back in London locked in the tower. It was then that the long away Lord Gower made his entrance after being away fighting for the king at the battle of Nevills Cross the year before and had witnessed the capture of the Queens Husband King David. He was gracious but threw in a small dig about her husbands capture.

It was then the Lord Mayor graced her with 3 plays outside the gates, "Arthur and the Stone", "Robin Hood and Maid Marion", and "St. George and the Dragon", before offering her the key to the city, which ended up getting to the Queen by the messenger being passed down the line of nobels on the tower until reaching Lord Gower who picked him up and threw him over the wall with the key to deliver it. Ahh... nobility, you have to like it. Suffice it the gates were then opened and the faire began.  I Lord Clisto, then presented the lucky child who got to open the gates with the Queen, with a sword I had purchased for their effort. We all walked directly to the Stone of St Margaret, prayed as the Bishop of York said a blessing, and then we were on our way for the day. One of the highlights being all the fathers that came down with children for the knighting ceremony on Sunday were also brought forth and knighted for Fathers Day. HUZZAH!!!

Many things abound around every corner. And, in case anyone wants to be in on court, we hold two courts a day and they are now all held inside the Chapel of St Margaret which is down by Abish's Arbor, with the second one encompassing the childrens knighting ceremony. So, you never know what will happen. I now look forward to this weekend which should be even more interesting, with this being Gypsy Weekend and a continuing plot. So, come visit us and get lost in the historical fantasy of our faire.

    Life is Good

Monday, May 5, 2008, 10:06 PM CST [General]

    Hello my friends,

I hope you are all doing well and are getting ready for the full swing of faire. I know I am as well as itching to begin performing once again. As many of you may not know, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year May, 2007. Believe me, it hasn't been easy. It has been a little over a year in total now, but just over 6 months since I had the procedure done. As I had mentioned, I went in for my battery of tests last Friday May 2nd. I had Blood work, Ultrasound and MRI run with a few other tests and then sat around waiting for the results. And, at this point, I was told and have it in a letter from my Urologist and Oncologist that I am now cancer “FREE”. HUZZAH!!!

I still have to go back periodically over the next year or so for some follow ups. I can not tell you how elated I was on the drive back. It has been a long rode with many emotions and other bumps along the way. As well as going in every Wednesday for blood work to make sure nothing else was affected in the process and gaining weight they wanted me to. For me, it has been one of good and bad as well as seeing life in a whole different manner now. I have had my bad days with some side effects etc, but I kept going. Now it’s loose the weight back again and delve into performing. I want to personally thank everyone for your prayers, thoughts, letters, calls and encouragement. It helped so much during this past year and still does. Thank You...

As I look ahead, I am looking to get back into shape over the next few months and enjoy many things that I haven’t been able to. In other words, I am going to start doing things for ME and not let all the crap or stress of people or life in general to bring me down. This has opened my eyes about many things. Life is to short to “sweat the small stuff”. It isn't easy, but the soul has the fight and the encouragement and open hearts of others makes all the difference. This is going to be a great faire season!!!

    You Were a Lynx

You are a great knower and keeper of secrets.

A bit psychic, you can bring out hidden truths.

This animal really hit the nail on the head. Boy, is this description the truth for me... I do find out the lies and hidden truths. I have always said even in my profile, I will find out the truth of things eventually and I usually do in people who lie, play games or are deceptive. There are some that this has been going on with for a while and even now, that I have known and found out a great many things that they don't know that I know. And they continue not to tell me the reality of things or only what they think I want to hear or do. But, I have found out much over time. And, soon it will all come out. They think I don't have a clue of the truth and so they keep it up. I just have been playing along to let them dig their holes deeper. I am one who digs and goes to the sources to get my info and the truth and doesn't go through the gossip, rumor, read into things or make stuff up channels just to suit their purpose. Especially those who open their mouths before having the facts or knowing at all what they really read in the first place or are talking about. Yes... the Lynx really does fit me well.

    Laugh Loudly and Love Always,

    Lord Sir Clisto
